Description

The Pre-Op Clinic/Surgical Visiting Specialist Clinic (VSC) Supervisor oversees all aspects of clinic and staff scheduling to meet facility and patient needs. The Supervisor is responsible for directing staff, coordinating timely pre-op patient education, and scheduling pre-anesthetic appointments, including telehealth visits. This role also involves managing a comprehensive surgical scheduling calendar for general surgery and all itinerant slates.

A key function of the position is to monitor Wait Times Information System (WTIS) data to prioritize and schedule "long-waiters," effectively reducing backlogs. The Supervisor will also reconcile the Novari system for patients who no longer require surgery and provide coverage in the Pre-Op Clinic as needed.

The Supervisor will lead the coordination of general surgery referrals and triaging. This role requires close collaboration with the General Surgeons' office to guarantee a streamlined process and maintain the integrity of all patient documentation. Additionally, the supervisor will coordinate the provision of support for the VSC.  The supervisor will identify and organize as required.

Qualifications

  • Current Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Completion of an approved or recognized nursing education program
  • Current certificate in BLS (within 12 months) an asset
  • Certification in IV therapy with demonstrated ongoing competence an asset
  • Certification in Blood Glucose Monitoring and demonstrated ongoing competence
  • Postgraduate program for preoperative nursing required
  • Strong clinical perioperative and nursing assessment experience required
  • Knowledge of Professional Standards and related Standards of Practice from the College of Nurses
  • of Ontario and the legislation guiding Nursing Practice (e.g., RHPA, HCCA, Human Rights legislation,
  • Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety legislation, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Collective Agreements
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple services
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage conflict
  • Demonstrated computer experience and strong knowledge of Window-based software
  • Knowledge and experience with Novari Scheduling Software, or willing to learn
  • Reliable attendance record
